PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a satisfactory wobble signal by selecting a plurality of filter circuits with different characteristics in accordance with a wobble frequency to be detected and making a significant part relating to signal detection performance a dedicated circuit while sharing the significant part in a device for recording and reproducing data on/from a plurality of media with different formats. SOLUTION: A circuit for detecting the wobble signal from the output of a photodetector common to several kinds of media with different preformats is provided with the plurality of filter circuits 19 for eliminating a noise component from the photodetector and extracting the wobble signal in accordance with the preformat of the medium to be reproduced or recorded therefrom/thereon. A selector 30 selects the output of the filter circuit 19 to be used in accordance with the wobble frequency to be detected. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
