PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display a character to further easily to see even when digitally magnifying the character included in a pickup image. SOLUTION: When a mode setting switch 143 is set in a "character display mode", a character recognizing processing part 20 recognizes the character from digital image data stored in a frame buffer 13 on the basis of character pattern information stored in a character information file 21, and stores the character expressed by an outline font corresponding to this recognized character in a character recognizing buffer 22. A control part 15 stores the digital image data including a partial character among a character group stored in the character recognizing buffer 22 in a VRAM 18, and displays the digital image data stored in the VRAM 18 on an LCD 19 arranged on a back face of a digital camera 1.
