PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an article storing and dispensing device for a vending machine that can dispense articles stably for a long period and can shorten time for selling. SOLUTION: The article storing and dispensing device for a vending machine comprises a gate mechanism 43 for opening and closing a dispensing outlet 40a, an article dispensing mechanism 42 for moving a plurality of articles S forward along an article passage 40 to dispense a sold article S1, a reversible article dispensing motor 56 disposed on a partition wall 23 to drive the gate mechanism 43 and the article dispensing mechanism 42, and controlling means for rotating the article dispensing motor 56 in a given direction at selling to open the dispensing outlet 40a via the gate mechanism 43 and to move the plurality of articles S forward via the article dispensing mechanism 42, and for rotating the article dispensing motor 56 in the opposite direction to the given direction after the dispensation of the sold article S1 to close the dispensing outlet 40a via the gate mechanism 43 and to stop the movement of the plurality of articles S by the article dispensing mechanism 42.
