PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an X-ray image pickup apparatus capable of obtaining a sharp image though a constitution is easy and inexpensive. SOLUTION: A darkroom box A2 is equipped with sensitizing paper or fluorescent paper 5 for converting X rays to visible light, a plurality of CCD cameras CA1, CA2 and CA3 for picking up the image of a subject visuallized on the sensitizing paper or fluorescent paper 5, and a fluorescence sensor 11 for detecting visible light. At least two CCD cameras (CA1, CA3) among the plurality of CCD cameras start image pickup operation on the basis of the signal of the fluorescent sensor 11 and the exposure times of them are controlled by an image input board 15. The image of the subject D is picked up by the CCD cameras CA1 and CA3 in a divided state to form a plurality of intermediate images and a plurality of these images are synthesized by an image processing means 13 to form a final image.
