It is intended to provide a probe support whereby a single-stranded probe DNA can be immobilized on the support and the form of a dot or a spot, etc. of the probe, which has been thus immobilized on the support, can be accurately observed with the use of a scanning probe microscope or techniques derived therefrom. A gold-containing film is formed in a region of a support, in which a single-stranded DNA probe is to be immobilized, and then the single-stranded DNA probe is immobilized to the film via a sulfur atom.
