<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus and an image processing method in which an intersection of a magnetic symbol (tag) in an MR image having the magnetic symbol and a target is accurately detected. <P>SOLUTION: The apparatus is provided with: a contour extracting part 2 for extracting a contour of the target from the MR image having the magnetic symbol (tag) by moving a plurality of discrete points set to the MR image in accordance with energy of the image; a magnetic symbol corresponding point determining part 3 for determining a discrete point corresponding to a portion of the magnetic symbol out of the moved discrete points; a magnetic symbol corresponding point verifying part 4 for finding a straight line corresponding to a boundary portion of the magnetic symbol and verifying the determined discrete point by using the straight line; and a magnetic symbol intersection detecting part 5 for detecting the intersection of the magnetic symbol and the target by moving the discrete points so as to minimize the total sum of elastic energy that the discrete point corresponding to the portion of the magnetic symbol has, image energy representing features in the portion of the magnetic symbol that the discrete point has, image energy that a discrete point corresponding to any portion except for the magnetic symbol has, and external energy to be added as needed. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
