PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic tape which has excellent high recording density characteristics and a recording capacity of 1 TB or more, and a magnetic tape cartridge. SOLUTION: Tabular, granular or elliptic magnetic powder having average particle sizes of 5 to 50 nm is used as the magnetic powder to be added to a magnetic layer and the thickness of the magnetic layer is set at≤0.09μm. Also, the tabular particles of average particle sizes 10 to 100 nm are contained in at least one layer of an undercoating layer and a back coating layer. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
