INHIBITION OF RETROVIRUS INFECTION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel method for prophylaxis or curing of retrovirus infection of cells of mammals, especially a novel method for prophylaxis of infection of human cells caused by a human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and related diseases including an acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). SOLUTION: The method for prophylaxis of the retrovirus infection includes a step to administer a sufficient amount of a serine leukocyte protease inhibitor, or an analogue or a derivative (SLPI) thereof to block the infection of a host caused by the retrovirus, to the host who needs the treatment.
