Production of a tension in a glass body comprises heating the body in a heating zone to a temperature in the region of the tension temperature, cooling in a tension zone, and heating in the heating zone so that the body has a similarly high temperature on its whole cross-section at the same time. An independent claim is also included for a device for producing a tension in a glass body comprising a heater to heat the body to a temperature in the region of the tension temperature, and a cooling zone connected to the heating zone to cool the body.
