A hand tool for crimping an electrical connector 1, forming part of a strip 2 of connectors, on to the end of an electric cable 12, comprises a crimping anvil 44 and a crimping die 77, means for imparting relative movement between them by pivotal movement of the handle 22, shearing members 42, 46 movable with the relative movement between the anvil and the die, the shearing member 42 co-operating with one side of the anvil to sever the connector from the strip, Fig. 5 (not shown), the die and anvil during the initial movement grip the severed connector while the cable is located therein whereupon further movement between the die and anvil crimps the connector on to the cable. During this last crimping movement the shearing member 46 severs the connecting lug 14 from the crimped connector. An ejector member 104 which is biased by a spring 106 is provided to remove the crimped connector from the die 77. In an alternative embodiment, Figs. 8 and 9 (not shown), the tool is for use with connector strips in which the connectors are positioned adjacent one another and in this embodiment the second shearing member 46 as in Figs. 1 to 6 is omitted. |
