PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high performance ink jet head capable of forming a good print by making the ejection quantity and ejection velocity of ink uniform through a simple arrangement and a control mechanism, and to provide an ink jet printer employing it. SOLUTION: On a head substrate having a large number of heating resistors arranged in the main scanning direction, a top plate is placed with a specified gap to the head substrate, the gap is divided into a plurality of sections arranged in a row in the main scanning direction, each section is filled with ink having a different surface tension, and a print is formed on a recording sheet by generating heat by the heating elements selectively thereby ejecting ink from an ink ejection hole. In such an ink jet head, means resistance of the heating elements located in the section is set depending on the surface tension of ink filling the section. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
