The space between inner and outer side walls 1, 2 of a cold liquefied gas storage container is charged with powdered heat insulating material contained in a plurality of separate bags 6 of material which remains pliable at low temperature, e.g. polythene or glass fibre cloth. The bags are stacked in groups of five separated by trays 8 and the bags of each group are tied together b glass fibre rope 7 so as to be spaced from the inner wall 1, thereby inhibiting development of inward force thereon.
