The padding for a respiration mask, at least at the mouth and nose openings, is of an elastomer material as a sealing lip around the openings to lie against the skin when worn. A zone with a thickened cross section is formed in the padding material so that the hardness is higher at the edges of the thickened zone than at its core. The different zone hardness is achieved by the use of a catalyst or cross linking blocker. The padding (1) for a respiration mask, at least at the mouth and nose openings, is of an elastomer material as a sealing lip (3) around the openings to lie against the skin (2) when worn.
