The apparatus comprises a device for detecting the basic data such as rate of rotation of a wheel and transmitting it via a cable or by wireless transmission, to a receiver which receives, analyses, stores and displays the data. The receiver is integrated in or coupled to a mobile telephone, which can be fastened to the handlebars of the bicycle.
