PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus for rapidly removing dark noise included in the output signal of an imaging element with precision when the apparatus comprises the imaging element for reading accumulated charges by a plurality of fields. SOLUTION: When a shutter button is depressed and an exposure time Te1 elapses, an electric charge signal stored in each pixel of a CCD(charge coupled device) is read. In the case of Tr1 when the charge is read, the accumulated charges in the first to third fields are read in order, and exposure data is obtained. Then light shielding photographing is performed while keeping the shutter closed. When a light shielding photographing time Te2 elapses, the accumulated charge of the third field is read so as to obtain data of the dark noise(light shielding data). Thus, the dark noise included in the output signal of the imaging element is rapidly removed with precision by subtracting from exposure data a dark noise correction value which is calculated based on the light shielding data.
