PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk drive on which a CD-ROM audio or DVD audio disk, a CD-DA disk, a CD-ROM disk, etc., can be loaded and which can discriminate and confirm the types of those disks to automatically reproduce sounds. SOLUTION: A CPU 14 discriminates the type of a disk 1 based on a signal read from the disk 1, performs signal processing such as decoding corresponding to encoding at recording required in accordance with the type of the disk in an orthogonal transform-Huffman code decoder 26, and provides a reproduction mode optimum to the optical disk.
