PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an intermediate transfer belt end part from cracking by making the gripping force of a driving roll uniform along the axis. SOLUTION: A rib 41 is provided at a side end part of the intermediate transfer belt 4 and made to abut against and slide on a rib guide 17 provided at an end part of the driving roll 11, thereby guiding an intermediate transfer body 4. Here, the rib guide 17 is enabled to rotate independently of the driving roll 11. Further, a gap G is formed by making the diameter D1 of the rib guide a little larger than the diameter D2 of the driving roll 1. Further, the diameter D1 of the rib guide is made a little smaller than the diameter D2 of the driving roll 11. Consequently, the gripping force decreases at both the width-directional end parts of the belt 4 to decrease the abutting force between the rib 41 and rib guide 17 by a walk. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
