PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electro-optical device having a function which can set only a part of a display screen to a display state and can set the other part to a non-display state, a driving method for the same, a driving method for a liquid crystal display device which uses a liquid crystal display device as the electro-optical device and can set a partial display state of low power consumption without a sense of incongruity in display, a liquid crystal display device on which display is performed by the driving method, and a driving circuit suitable for driving the electro-optical device. SOLUTION: In the electro-optical device having a function which can set only a part of a display screen to a display state and can set the other part to a non-display state, an applied voltage to a scanning electrode is fixed to a non-selected voltage and an applied voltage to a signal electrode is fixed to the same voltage level as entire screen on indication or entire screen off indication at least for a prescribed period, with respect to a non-display area.
