PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent color and luminance bands on a projection, caused by a variation in the luminance of a light source, from being perceived by human being's vision. SOLUTION: When scanning is carried out with a scanning frequency f by a scanning means 3 so that the whole of the image composing face of an image composing element 1 which composes an image is uniformly irradiated with light from a light source means 4 which varies in luminance with a luminance variation frequency g, a relation between the luminance variation frequency g and the scanning frequency f are synchronized with äg=f(n/m)} (in which n and m are relatively prime natural numbers) by an n/m frequency converter 6. Alternatively, if p=äg/(30f)} without completely synchronizing them by using the luminance variation frequency g, the luminance variation frequency G of the light source means 4 is set so as to have a relation containing äg+p≥G≥g-p} and a permissible width. Further, they are completely synchronized, and the natural number n and the natural number m indicating a ratio between the scanning frequency f and the luminance frequency g when establishing a constant relation showing a ratio between relatively prime natural numbers are set to n≥6 and ä(g/m)≥50}, respectively.
