PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a combustion tool which detects a failure of a gas opening / closing valve before starting combustion operation of a burner. SOLUTION: An ignition electrode is activated by opening a gas passage opening / closing valve for normal ignition processing, and a combustion control means is provided for executing combustion operation by changing a combustion amount by a flow regulating valve when an ignition is detected by a flame detection sensor. In this combustion tool, a failure detecting means is provided for detecting a failure of at least either of the gas passage opening / closing valve and the flow regulating valve prior to the normal ignition treatment, when start of the combustion operation is instructed, by executing such control that one of the gas passage opening / closing valve and the flow regulating valve is opened with the other closed and the ignition electrode is activated for test ignition treatment and by checking presence of a combustion flame by the flame detection sensor. A failure coping means is also provided for stopping the combustion operation or annunciating when the failure detecting means detects a failure of at least either of the gas passage opening / closing valve and the flow regulating valve.
