PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a piston ring generating tensile force suitable for each of a low load condition and a high temperature condition and eliminate the troublesome work when mounting the piston ring composed of a piston ring main body and an expander on a piston for an internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: The expander constituting the piston ring is composed of two kinds of different expander members. The expander member on one side (master expander member) acts in the same way as the conventional expander. The expander member on the other side (subexpander member) generates changes of tensile force in the radial direction depending on temperature to provide the action for changing pressing force of the master expander member acting in the same way as the conventional expander. Furthermore, a coil expander member on one side is stored in a spiral internal space part of a coil expander member on the other side. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
