PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lash adjuster for maintaining a stable valve lift. SOLUTION: A nut member 13 is provided on the lower side of an end plate 12 of a lifter body 11. An adjust screw 15 is screwed in a screw hole 14 of the nut member 13, and the screw 15 is axially pressed by a resilient body 16. An internal thread 14a of the hole 14 and a screw thread of the adjust screw 15 are serrated. A slide member 22 is incorporated between the adjust screw 15 and a valve stem 2. The slide member 22 is held unseparably from the lifter body 11. The slide member 22 is hindered from rotating, but is made movable in the axial direction. The slide member 22 is prevented from dropping before its assembly to the valve gear. Thus, the assembly of the slide member is facilitated even though the valve stem 2 and the lifter body 11 are relatively rotated, and the rotation is not transmitted to the adjust screw 15 to stabilize the vale lift.
