PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video image processing method which mainly relates to plasma display techniques and improves luminance and (or) an image quality of an image displayed on a matrix display device like a plasma display panel, on the basis of duty cycle modulation (pulse width modulation) of light emission and to provide a video image processor for realizing the method. SOLUTION: The video image processing method for processing a video image to be displayed on a display device provided with a plurality of lines constituted of light emitting elements called cells which correspond to pixels of an image, comprises a step of dividing the duration of one moving picture frame into a plurality of sub-field periods during light emitting operation of the cell and a step of dividing a sub-field period to an address period when the plurality of lines are individually scanned, a maintenance period, and an erase period.
