PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic endoscope apparatus which can enhance operability by limiting a usable processing function in accordance with the situation of actual connection to a signal processor. SOLUTION: A central processing unit (CPU) 44 of a video processor 4 detects the type of a charge-coupled device (CCD) 27, which is built in an electronic endoscope 2, in accordance with identification information from a built-in scope ID circuit 46, in every electronic endoscope 2 for being actually connected to the video processor 4. The CPU 44 detects an expansion processing function of an option board 7 by an option-board detecting circuit 47 when the option board 7 is connected. The CPU 44 restrains expansion processing from being performed by an electronic zoom using a scaling circuit (1) 55a, for example, in the case of the CCD 27 with a small number of pixels, and brings about a display state in which the expansion processing function is not effective.
