A filter arrangement having a cylindrical filter element (16) of fine porosity material (3) of e.g. metallic fiber fleece, or sintered metal, also has an ultrasonic vibrator (12) which is concentrically located within the element, but may, in the case of multiple elements, be in the center of a group. Independent claims are also included for the following: (i) cleaning a fine porosity filter element using ultrasonic vibration; and (ii) the use of metallic-fiber fleece and sintered elements.
