The control unit is located within the engine compartment of a road vehicle and has a base (8) and a cover (7). Mounted on the underside of the cover is an electronic controller for the engine. This can be in the form of a hybrid circuit bonded to the cover. Terminal blocks are set into the cover and these receive plugs (11,13) on cables connecting with the actuators and a main computer system (4).
