PURPOSE: A method for controlling operation of a reciprocating compressor is provided to control the reciprocating compressor at optimum condition. CONSTITUTION: A method comprises a detecting step detecting present electric current impressed to a motor, and detecting voltage changed by turning on/off of the electric current and a switch; a comparing step comparing each of the fixed data of electric current and voltage with data of electric current and voltage apart by fixed number; and an optimum condition determining step recognizing a location where TDC(Top Dead Center) is 0 using pattern of data output through the comparing step.
