PURPOSE: A home gateway system for providing a multi-class IP addressing service is provided to accept both a home network equipment using a public IP and a home network equipment which use a private IP by supporting a public IP class and a private IP address. CONSTITUTION: A home gateway system for providing a multi-class IP addressing service is composed of a home network interface unit(9), an operating system(4), and a WAN interface unit(5). The home network interface unit(9) comprises an IP router and interface unit(7) and an Ethernet bridge(8). The IP router and interface unit(7) allocates a private IP to a home network equipment. If packet data are transmitted from the home network equipment, the IP router and interface unit(7) converts the IP for the transmitted packet data into a public IP. The Ethernet bridge(8) performs a simple bridging function for the packet data. The operating system(4) consists of a kernel(4a), a communication control part(4b), a device driving part(4c), and a memory(4d). The kernel(4a) makes the system operated smoothly. The communication control part(4b) controls the transmission paths of the packet data delivered from the IP router and interface unit(7) and the Ethernet bridge(8). The device driving part(4c), connected with the IP router and interface unit(7) and the Ethernet bridge(8), transfers packet data, delivered from the IP router and interface unit(7) or the Ethernet bridge(8), to the WAN interface unit(5). The memory(4d) stores IP conversion information.
