A UV-LED (1) (ultraviolet light emitting diode) is fitted at the tip of a catheter (4) and supplied from a plug connection (7). When inserted in the tissue under investigation light generated by auto-fluorescence is conducted by an optical fibre (3) to a spectrometer via a connection (6) to a spectrometer. A filter at the tip of the optical fibre absorbs ultraviolet light with a wave length less than 430 nm. Long wave radiation in the visible spectrum to which the autofluorescence light belongs passes through the filter.
