The device has a fuel feed (22) for supplying a liquid fuel to a burner and a device for detecting a gas bubble in the fuel feed in the form of an optical sensor. The optical sensor detects the diffraction of a light beam (56) in the fuel feed. The optical sensor can alternatively detect reflection, especially total reflection, of a light beam in the fuel feed.
