Mechanical torsion vibration damper comprises a primary (1) and a secondary part (2), which are connected via a spring and damping system consisting of tangential pressure springs and pistons engaging with contact surfaces on the primary and secondary parts, and additional damping devices provided between the primary and secondary parts. Preferred Features: The additional damping device has a sliding friction ring made of plastic which is preferably inserted with play in a groove (21) in the primary or secondary part. The friction ring has on its opposite side to the groove driving cams (20) which engage with free play in recesses in the secondary or primary part. The friction ring has an open hollow profile receiving a wound metal spring (16), a rubber O-ring, or a similar part.
