Plasma display consists of a phosphor preparation made of a phosphor having a magnesium oxide coating. An Independent claim is also included for the production of the phosphor preparation comprising homogeneously precipitating magnesium hydroxide onto the phosphor from a suspension of the phosphor in a solution having a pH 7 containing a water-soluble magnesium salt by increasing the pH to 9.5, and subsequently calcining the phosphor coated with magnesium hydroxide.
