PURPOSE: An authentication and billing method for wireless LAN services is provided so that a user can use another AP in case that a fault occurs at the present AP in the middle of using a wireless LAN service. CONSTITUTION: If a user terminal(11) requests access to an AP(12)(301), the AP(12), as an authentication client, transmits a data format to an authentication system(15)(302). The authentication system(15) inserts subscriber information into a session descriptive information table and grants authentication(302). Billing starts as the authentication system(15) transmits a data format to a billing system(14)(303). In case that a fault occurs at the AP(12)(308), a network management system(13), monitoring the state of the AP(12), transmits a data format to the authentication system(15)(309,310). The authentication system(15) finds out records that the AP IP address of the data format is identical to an AP IP address in the session descriptive information table, and deletes them so that the subscriber can user wireless LAN services through another AP(311).
