The metal bolt (16) oscillates about its longitudinal axis (24), in order to, at least partially, break open the coating of the sheet metal (18). During a first step, the metal bolt oscillates backwards and forwards, in the axial direction, with reference to the sheet metal. The sheet metal is released from remainders of the coating by a positive or a negative pressure. The arc is diverted by a magnetic field during the cleaning step. An Independent claim is also included for an arc welding device.
