PURPOSE: A facsimile with a sound output control function and a method for controlling sound output are provided to interrupt sound output of a facsimile in a time zone wanted by users. CONSTITUTION: An input unit(105) receives a sound-off time set key signal. A timer(125) counts the current time for displaying the counted current time on a screen of a display(145). An interface unit(100) is constructed to realize mutual communication with an external device for receiving external signals from the external device. A printing unit(115) prints print data to the print paper. A sound output unit(140) outputs a sound signal. A control unit(110) controls the sound output unit to interrupt sound output of the sound output unit in the case that the time of the timer is the sound-off time if the sound-off time is set by the input unit.
