PURPOSE: To realize a skip operation in a data record reproducing apparatus such as an IC recorder. CONSTITUTION: The data record reproducing apparatus is provided with operation buttons 10 such as a sound recording button, a reproduction button, an index button, etc. A controlling microcomputer 7 creates a file name containing a file ID number and an index number according to the operation of the sound recording button, starts digital data writing, and then updates the index number contained in the file name according to the operation of the index button, and continues the digital data writing under the new file name. Further, it starts read-out of the digital data having a selected file name, then updates the index number contained in the file name according to the operation of the index button, and moves to read-out of the digital data having a new file name.
