PURPOSE: A variable inertia flywheel including fluid is provided to improve acceleration efficiency of an engine and reduce vibration in idling the engine by adjusting the inertia of the flywheel with varying the position of fluid according to the operation range. CONSTITUTION: A variable inertia flywheel comprises a centrifugal pump(15) combined with a crankshaft(10) and composed of plural blades(17) arranged radially; a flywheel(20) having an annular low inertia chamber(22) formed around a shaft hole(21) of the wheel, an annular high inertia chamber(23) formed around the low inertia chamber, and a moving passage(25) formed between the low and high inertia chambers to communicate liquid mercury; a clutch(40) inserted between the shaft hole of the flywheel and the crankshaft to transmit power from the crankshaft to the flywheel; fluid charged in the low and high inertia chambers; and control valves(31,32) regulating the inlet of the moving passage between the low and high inertia chambers.
