PURPOSE: An apparatus for estimating block matching motion for image coding is provided to more promptly process blocks, and realize more accurate motion estimation, thereby improving the quality of an image. CONSTITUTION: An int-pixel vector system(10) compares a reference block with search area data of in-pixel units continuously inputted for calculating the minimum block distortion value and a motion vector to a block where the minimum block distortion value is generated. A half-pixel vector system(20) receives the block data of the minimum distortion and peripheral 18 x 18 pixel data calculated in the int-pixel vector system for generating half-pixel data in the inputted pixel data. The half-pixel vector system operates block distortion of half-pixels based on the reference block and half-pixel data, and compares the half-pixel block distortion with the int-pixel block data distortion for extracting the minimum block distortion, and outputting a motion vector of the minimum block distortion. |
