A lightweight wheel (1) is constructed of titanium or a composite material such as carbon fibre reinforced nylon material. The wheel has a central hub (3) and a circular rim (2) which are interconnected by spring elements (4) such as may be formed by a looped spring band (43) having a number of radial loops (44) extending between the hub (3) and rim (2). A tyre strip (7) may be mounted around an outer circumferential face of the rim (2). <IMAGE>
