PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display and a method for driving the same are provided to sense a pattern generating flicker by a gray scale signal applied to each pixel, and reduce the flicker by changing an inversion driving method. CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal panel(100) includes a plurality of gate lines, a plurality of data lines, and a plurality of pixels arranged in matrix type. Each pixel includes first to third color pixels. A data driver(400) applies a gray scale voltage necessary for displaying a picture to the plurality of data lines. A timing controller(200) receives first to third color gray scale signals for providing the same to the data driver, and generates control signals necessary for driving the liquid crystal panel. In the case that dot blocks continuously including adjacent two pixels as many as certain numbers are repeated in a certain pattern, the timing controller changes an inversion driving method. The adjacent pixels have the size of a difference in gray scale in one color pixel among the first to the third color pixels, which is not less than a threshold.
