PURPOSE: A method for converting a wavelength path in a WDM(Wavelength Division Multiplexing) transfer network is provided to achieve the release of an existing wavelength path and the creation of a new wavelength path through a single operation so that a wavelength path connection setup node pair can be changed without disconnecting traffic flow. CONSTITUTION: If a request message to modify a virtual topology arrives(S410), an OXC(Optical Cross-Connect) system judges whether the present OXC system and the OXC system of the next block belong to an existing wavelength path(S420). If the present OXC system and the OXC system of the next block belong to the existing wavelength path, the OXC system transfers the request message to the OXC system of the next block(S430). However, in case that the present OXC system and the OXC system of the next block don't belong to the existing wavelength path, the OXC system reserves wavelength switch setup for the conversion of path setup(S440). If the reservation of wavelength switch setup is successful, the OXC system transfers the request message to the OXC system of the next block(S430).
