APPARATUS FOR EXTRACTING AREA BASED TEXTURE USING BLOCK CORRELATION COEFFICIENTS AND METHOD THEREFOR

PURPOSE: An apparatus for extracting an area based texture using block correlation coefficients and a method therefor are provided to efficiently extract a texture area having a change in brightness from divided images. CONSTITUTION: An image dividing unit(12) divides an area of an inputted image. A block correlation coefficients calculating unit obtains correlation coefficients of the inputted image by blocks, and obtains a quantity of change in the correlation coefficients. A block correlation coefficients area mean calculating unit(14) obtains the mean change per area of the correlation coefficients, and fills the divided areas with the mean change. A threshold calculating unit(15) calculates a threshold of the mean change of each area. A texture extracting unit(16) extract an area having a texture characteristic as a texture area by using the calculated threshold.
