A bridge is constructed by building out in sections simultaneously from opposite sides of a pier 2 by means of an advancing framework 14 resting on an already completed part 9-12 and on the pier 2 on which construction is proceeding. The sections may be cast or prefabricated. The sections are cast on platforms 20, 21 supported by rods 22, 23 from the framework 14 and by rods 24, 25 from the adjacent sections 18 already cast. The platforms are moved from one section to the next on carriages on the framework 14. When the span 9-12, 18 &c. is completed the framework is moved on supports 15, 16 and a further support on the outer end of the half span 18', 19' &c. until it rests on a support on the next pier. The framework 14 may be below the bridge superstructure. |
