1,161,034. Vulcanizing wire and cable. SUMITOMO ELECTRIC INDUSTRIES Ltd. 6 June, 1967 [11 June 1966; 20 April, 1967(4)], No. 26030/67. Heading C3E. Rubber or plastics covered electric wire or cable is vulcanized by heating by radiant heating under the superatmospheric pressure of an inert gas which does not oxidize rubber or plastics. Uncured cable (W) is passed through packing (3) (not required when the covering extruder is directly coupled to the heating tube) into the heating zone (A) in which a plurality of infra-red heaters (1-1, 1-2, ... ) are mounted. Inert gas is passed in through inlet (9). After vulcanization the cable passes through precooling zone (B) into cooling zone (C) wherein cooling water circulates via inlet (7) and outlet (8). |
