[Also in Division C3] A catalyst for the polymerisation of olefin oxides is obtained by reacting (1) a complex of a transition metal salt and a hexa-alkyl or alkenyl phosphoric acid triamide with (,2) a C 1-4 alkyl compound of a metal of Group 2 or 3 of the Periodic System. Suitable transition metal salts are halides, nitrates, sulphates, benzoates, acetates, stearates and oxychlorides andspecified are cobalt chloride and nitrate, nickel bromide and nitrate, titanium trichloride and zirconium chloride and oxychloride.. In the phosphoric acid triamide, the alkyl or alkenyl groups may be linear, branched or cyclic; and the amide .group may be derived from a morpholine radical. Examples of alkyl metal compounds are dibutyl and diethyl zinc and' triethyl and triisobutyl aluminium; others are specified including halo- and ethoxy-substituted compounds. The catalyst may be obtained by adding the alkyl metal compound to a solution or suspension of the complex in .an organic solvent. |
