A web 12, Fig. 1, having transverse lines of weakening is fed into a burster by an infeed roller assembly 18, Figs. 1 and 2, and passed through a movable roller assembly 20 having tension means 20a which initiate tearing, to a more rapidly rotating roller assembly 22 which completes separation into sheets. The sheets move against edges 164, Fig. 13, of brackets 156, and are deflected downwards on to belts 144 and below nip rollers 160, the belts travelling at such a speed as to carry the sheets in overlapping relationship to a deflector plate 198, Figs. 2 and 11, hitting downwardly extending fingers 196 on a bar 194 and passing on to a stacking table. The fingers 196 when struck deflect arms 192 and actuate a switch 202 to start a motor and lower the table one step. The roller assembly 20 is mounted on slide members 184 manually adjustable according to the length of the sheets. The plate 198 and its associated parts is also carried on the slide members and is thus adjustable according to sheet length. The slide also carries a stub 92 which is slidable in a slot 94 to rotate a spider 84 carrying rollers 88 so as to vary the tension in the drive belt 80 for the belts 144, and this variation alters the effective diameter of a pulley assembly 78, so as to alter the speed of the belts to produce the desired degree of overlapping mesh various sheet lengths.</p> |
