PURPOSE: A press apparatus is provided to prevent frictional resistance, to enhance positioning accuracy for a movable member, to reduce load imposed on a drive unit for driving the movable member, to prevent the occurrence of positional deviation or inclination of a mold attached to the movable member, and to enhance the quality of a molded article. CONSTITUTION: A press apparatus has a movable member(24) with a mold-mounting surface for mounting a movable mold thereon and at least four guide surfaces(24a), and a guide member(15) with at least four guide surface(15a) facing the corresponding guide surfaces of the movable member. The mutually facing guide surfaces are held in a non-contacting condition by injecting fluid into a space formed between the guide surfaces of the movable member and the corresponding guide surfaces of the guide member.
