PURPOSE: An optical pickup assembly of a disc drive is provided to place optical system in a line by using lens having a short focussing distance while preventing a height thereof from increasing, thereby reducing the size and preventing the optical axis reject. CONSTITUTION: An optical pickup assembly of a disc drive includes a pickup frame(30) having a short focussing distance, a light source(40) mounted to the pickup frame via a through hole(35), an objective lens(60) mounted to an actuator(50), and the actuator mounted in an upper part of the pickup frame for moving the objective lens in every direction. The light source has d-cutting surfaces at both longitudinal end parts, wherein a distance between the d-cutting surfaces is equal to or smaller than a distance between elastic holding pieces formed at lower edge parts of the pickup frame. The light source has stems(42) at the other sides having no d-cutting surfaces, wherein a distance between front ends of the stems is equal to an inner diameter of the through hole, and a curvature of the front ends is smaller than the through hole. When the light source is inserted into the through hole of the pickup frame, the d-cutting parts face the elastic holding pieces and the stems are secured on a supporting step surrounding the inner periphery of the through hole. As the light source is rotated in the through hole, the stems are located below the elastic holding pieces for preventing the light source from being deviated from the through hole.
