The pressure plate assembly for a friction clutch has a housing (12) connected to a flywheel and with a pressure plate (16) movable along the rotational axis. There is a wear compensator between a spring (20) and the pressure plate. A play provider (36) has a gripper (34) on the pressure plate to engage a stop (52) on the housing. The stop has an abutment area (88) for engaging the housing.
