Method for monitoring the signal quality in optical networks

The monitoring method involves measuring the signal quality at the beginning and end of the transmission path (OMS) at equal time intervals determined by a measuring device at the transmission end. The corresponding time marking (ZM) and the measuring result (MEQ) for the transmission side of the transmission path are transmitted via an additional channel (OCH) to a measuring device (MES) at the reception side. The measuring results for the transmission and reception sides of the transmission path are compared directly, or after transmission to a central evaluation device (ZS), for evaluating the quality of the transmission path.
